Garden maintenance

Gardener website design in Suffolk

A gardener’s product is the calendar, so the website should be one — and it should keep itself up to date without anybody logging in.

Garden maintenance is seasonal work sold to people who think about their garden four times a year. A site that says the same thing in February as it does in July is invisible in both months.

Built, and live

Verge Landscapes

A gardener’s product is the calendar, so the site is built as one. It reads the real month, dresses the page in that month’s colour, rewrites the headline and the three featured jobs to match, and grows a drawn hedgerow along the hero as the months turn. Nobody logs in to change it.

The home page of the Verge Landscapes site

Verge Landscapes is a fictional business in an invented Suffolk town, built to the same standard as paid work and deployed to its own address. It is set to noindex so it can never compete with a real garden maintenance in search — everything indexable about it lives on this page instead.

The brief

What this website actually has to do

The right job in the right month

Hedge cutting in August is a different sale from bare-root planting in November. The site should lead with whichever is now.

Maintenance versus one-off

A monthly round and a two-week landscaping job are different businesses sharing a van. Price and describe them separately.

What a visit includes

Green waste, edging, the bits at the back. Most disputes in garden maintenance are about scope, not price.

No maintenance burden

A seasonal site that needs a human to change it seasonally will be wrong by March.

The build

How this one does it

  • The site reads the month. Verge Landscapes dresses the page in the current month’s colour, rewrites the headline and swaps the three featured jobs. Nobody logs in to do it.
  • A hedgerow that grows. A drawn hedge along the hero withdraws and regrows as the months turn — loaded only when it is in view and the visitor has not asked for less motion.
  • Photographs located in England. Every image was checked to be a British garden on its own source page. A gardener’s site full of Californian planting is an argument against itself.

What one costs

Website, built and handed over, from £300. A website designed, built and handed to you outright. You own the site and the hosting account, and there is nothing to keep paying me. Later changes are £49 an hour, only when you ask for them, and there is a monthly option at £89 if you need software as well as a site.

Quotes are fixed and in writing before anything starts, and I show you the finished site on a development link before asking for a penny.

Want this for your garden maintenance?

Tell me what your business does and how people currently find you. I build it, show it to you finished, and hand you the accounts at the end — you own what you pay for.
